The Shift That Turned My Dread Into Creative Fuel
REPORT + May 26- June 1, 2025 in my sticker journal
Hi, it’s your sticker-loving bestie with a Flashback Friday post all about calling in wonder in these trying times. We’ll also revisit an older sticker journal spread as part of our practice to explore and celebrate the mundane of my life in hopes of inspiring you to pause, notice, and embrace your own wonderful life.
George Carlin said, “When you’re born, you get a ticket to the freak show. When you’re born in America, you get a front row seat. And some of us have notebooks.”
And some of us have notebooks. 🙌
I love this quote because it’s permission to transform dread into something useful. What if we captured the full spectrum of life in the current era in our journals without letting them flatten us? What if curiosity became our bridge from “I can’t do anything” to “I can do something?”
My unfortunate morning mantra is often, “Let’s see what kind of banana surprises are in store for today!” But if I’m living through these weird times anyway, I might as well document them.
On paper, you can have colorful, tactile proof that joy and struggle exist simultaneously.
These past few years have been a lot. Without a notebook, they could have blurred into one long, exhausting montage of bad news. Our brains will default to remembering the worst parts because that’s just how memory works.
But with paper and curiosity in your back pocket? You’ll notice the whole story: how crises resolve, how small joys interrupt the darkness, how you’re still here, still creating, still finding beauty in the circus of life. You’ll find the helpers. You’ll find the good.
Your invitation: Replace dread with wonder. Grab some stickers. Get curious. Let your journal hold what’s too heavy to carry alone.
Try it. Then come and tell me what you discover.
Now, let’s look at this early summer spread. ✨
